ABSTRACT

Cardiac hydatid cyst is a rare form of echinococcosis seen in endemic areas. Depending on the exact localization, it can lead to life-threatening complications. A cardiac localization is rare, accounting for only 0.5-2% of all cases of echinococcal cyst. The most frequently involved area of the heart is the left ventricle and, much rarely, the right ventricle and the interventricular septum. Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be useful in the diagnosis . This article presents the case of a twelve-year-old girl who was reffered to our clinic for the complaints of palpitation and was diagnosed with cardiac echinococcal cyst.
