In this study we compared the effects of izoflurane, sevoflurane and desflurane on the recovery rate and their cost effectiveness. 60 patients (ASAI -II categories), prepared for histerectomy operations were randomly allocated into three groups. All patients, receiving 1,5-2μg/kg fentanyl , 2-3mg/kg propofol i.v. for the induction of anaesthesia and receiving 0,6mg/kg rocuronium for the muscle relaxation, were intubated orotracheal. For the maintanance of anaesthesia all patients received %50 O2 + %50 N2O and group I received %1-1,5 isoflurane, group II received %1-3 sevoflurane, group III received %4-6 desflurane. For all three groups, extubation, eye-opening and orientation time, Aldrete score and the side effects on the recovery time were detected and recorded. Before extubation, 1, 5, 10 minutes after extubation MAP, HR were recorded. After the operation the amount of inhalated anaesthetics utilized for all patients were recorded as milliliters. We compared the mean costs of inhalated anaesthetics utilized per minute. There were no significant differences between all three groups in haemodynamic values (MAP, HR) after the extubation. In desflurane group cessation of the agent-extubation time, eye-opening time, orientation time and Aldrete scores were shorter than the isoflurane and sevoflurane groups. We found that the anaesthetic cost per minute in desflurane group were lower and in isoflurane group the amount of anaesthetic utilized were at least. In conclusion, we decided that because of shorter recovery time and being not expensive, desflurane can be used for histerectomy operations as an alternative anaesthetic inhalation to izoflurane and sevoflurane.
