An Overview of Diabetic Nephropathy

Diabetic nephropathy is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality associated with a high risk of cardiovascular complications. The primary goal should be treatment and control of risk factors. Structural changes due to diabetic nephropathy may affect all the renal compartments. Atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis and arteriolosclerosis constitute an important part of systemic vascular lesions in diabetics. Close monitoring of blood pressure and glycemic control is important in the prevention of microvascular complications. In this review, we aimed to give an outline of diabetic nephropathy which is an increasing public health problem and to draw attention to this condition.
